The Center for Prison Outreach and Education partners with a variety of community and governmental organizations:
1) The New Jersey Department of Corrections (DOC), the Albert C. Wagner Youth Correctional Facility, East Jersey State Penitentiary, Edna Mahan Correctional Facility, Garden State Youth Correctional Facility, Jones Farm Correctional Facility, and New Jersey State Prison.
2) TCNJ Bonner Center for Civic and Community Engagement: The Institute works closely with the TCNJ Bonner Center for Civic and Community Engagement, which provides an integral portion of our programming. Click here for more information on the Bonner Center’s role.
3) The Petey Greene Prisoner Assistance Program: The joint courses that bring TCNJ students and Department of Corrections students together in the same classroom are conducted under the auspices of The Petey Greene Prisoner Assistance Program/Institute for Prison Teaching and Outreach. The PGPAP generously covers the courses’ transportation needs and partners with the IPTO on other initiatives to enhance prison education in central New Jersey.
4) Mercer County Community College (MCCC) and Princeton University’s Prison Teaching Initiative: Thanks to the funding from the Sunshine Lady Foundation, TCNJ formed a partnership in 2011 with MCCC and the PTI to assist in the development of a new MCCC Associate Degree program at Garden State and AC Wagner prisons. Since 2012, this initiative has been incorporated into the work of NJ STEP.
The Institute, assisted by the Bonner Center, is in the process of developing a new partnership as well with Mercer County Correctional Facility.
